Their goal was to get cleaner drinking water for themselves, but discovered that gravity filters are something others could benefit from as well.

“We waited eight weeks on backorder with three different companies and Mike looks at me one day and he goes, ‘how hard would it be to make our own,’” said Hynes.

After creating their own system and receiving positive feedback and an influx of orders from friends and family on social media, they decided to make more.

They now provide filtration systems to families all over the country seeking cleaner, safe drinking water.

Their company is called BluePure and has grown exponentially since its launch date during the pandemic. With a portable, countertop gravity filtration system, the company provides a solution to those who want better quality drinking water in their kitchen at home or while traveling.

One customer, Michael Seegraves from Palm Harbor is a conscious consumer that is very particular about the water he drinks.

“The Flint thing, my family is from Michigan, so I was very attuned to that,” said Seegraves.

The gravity filter is an invention for people who are looking to have safe drinking water from any freshwater source. Utilizing gravity alone, the water will naturally percolate through the filtration media, filtering around one gallon of fresh, clean water every hour.

Standing at 23” tall this water filter is designed to sit on any countertop. The filtration housing is made of rust-proof 304 stainless steel. The lower collection container being made of lead-free, borosilicate glass; makes it easy for you to watch as gravity naturally purifies the water.

Hynes had this to say in regards to the concerned residents in the area surrounding the Piney Point fertilizer leak in April:

“In our conversation with several families that are on well water in that area, they wanted to know how they can better protect themselves.”

Over the span of centuries, societies have used ceramics to filter out sediment and pathogens from drinking water. This technology dates back as far as the Roman Empire. These filters remove many contaminants but do not remove essential minerals like magnesium and calcium from the water.

“People are looking for clean, fresh water. I mean, it’s a necessity for survival; we just had no idea how impactful our water system would be,” said Hynes.

Most gravity filters today are portable applications that require no electricity or pumps whatsoever — making them ideal for camping and survival situations.

“We didn’t realize how many people wanted cleaner water and how important it was; we just made it for ourselves,” said McPherson in the interview.
